CHES PTA Listserv
The CHES PTA listserv is designed to facilitate communication across the Cayuga Heights Elementary School community. As a discussion listserv, all members can post announcements and start threads of conversation. All messages should be relevant to the broad CHES school community, since they will be seen by hundreds of CHES parents, teachers, staff, and caregivers.
Our listserv keeps the CHES school community connected throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to share ideas, ask questions, and find support. By joining, you will see:
Announcements for upcoming school events
Opportunities to get involved in annual school activities, educational programs, and fun social events
Volunteer requests for events, initiatives, and fundraising efforts
Resource sharing, discussions, and answers to common questions
Updates from school staff and the CHES PTA

You can join our listserv by signing up for a free PTA membership.
You’ll be added to the CHES PTA listserv and you can start sending & receiving emails. There are no specific requirements for PTA members and joining our listserv is the best way to stay connected to the CHES school community.
General Guidelines
Things to Do
Make announcements relevant to the broad CHES school community about upcoming events, educational programs, fun social events, etc.
Seek volunteers and input for upcoming PTA events & programs
Recruit people to get involved in a new school-related initiative
Share resources relevant to the CHES school community
Invite members to join you for a longer off-listserv conversation
Things Not to Do
Avoid replying all to the CHES PTA google group when your message is more appropriate to send directly to one person or a small group
Do not send emails endorsing or promoting particular candidates for elected office, including the Board of Education. Because this mailing list is associated with the PTA, such emails could cause us to lose our 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
Do not post classified ads. While we strongly support everyone’s efforts to find a new home for an item instead of throwing it away, the mailing list is not a marketplace and should not be used for selling or giving away personal items. This includes seeking or requesting employment for you or others.
Hot Topics
If you are not writing about a PTA or community program or event, please take a moment to consider the following general guidelines:
Before you start a new discussion, please consider whether the PTA mailing list is the most appropriate place for the topic
Before you send an email to the group, please consider the tone and length of your email
If your email references (by name or otherwise) others in the school community, please give extra consideration to whether the identifying information is necessary to the discussion and how that person might feel upon reading your email
Note: Emails that go out over the mailing list are not pre-screened. Reviewing every message would require valuable volunteer time, which we dedicate to our primary mission of enriching our school community. Additionally, we aim to support community conversations, which can be beneficial even if participants disagree. We trust our membership and community members to communicate ideas and opinions in a respectful manner.
